Thoughts
This was one of those unintentional drawings. I was doodling and drew the devil head, then felt like it had a mirror so redrew the same head shape below and that turned into a woman with hair meeting the beard. I thought it looked like an hourglass, so added that around the outside. Then, I wanted to give a sense of motion and a little chaos so added the checkered effect to give it a bit of a spin.
I find it interesting that the devil doesn't seem powerful, but instead scared or worried and the good woman looks wistful or maybe bored. Perhaps neither is happy with a lack of control over their situation or emotion.

Materials and Process
This began as much more of a doodle. I often scribble faces. I had the image of this point goatee/beard which morphed into a mirror image and eventually the two characters. This then reminded me of an hourglass so I added that part. It looked kind of surreal to me so I wanted to give an impression of this hourglass turning and moving through space - my solution was the inked background.
Here, you can see the piece before adding the background.
