Thoughts

This piece took a long time and felt almost like it was healing. The mushrooms seemed to represent a positive growth, like something becoming a part of a system, maybe some kind of symbiosis. The figure is free and dancing in the moonlight, she is grounded and in the moment - nothing is more earthy than a mushroom. She is natural and changing, mushrooms grow quickly after all, but she seems in her own element. I felt confident completing it although the detail did drive me crazy (and hurt my hand!)

Process

This took a very long time. I sketched out the basic pose and drew in the large mushrooms in the foreground using markers. Then, I began drawing the little mushrooms covering her body in fineliner pen (0.03mm) which took a lot of concentration and time. After that I added the mossy grass in coloured pencils using a simple 3 colour fade. Finally, I used watercolour and pencils to create the sky and finish it with some silver pigment paint.
